CO₂ Fractional Laser is a cosmetic procedure for deep skin rejuvenation, resurfacing and tightening. It works by delivering high-energy laser beams delivered in a fractional pattern, creating thousands of microscopic thermal columns while leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This triggers a collagen production response and skin remodelling, while allowing faster healing and less downtime than traditional, fully ablative lasers.

A topical anaesthetic is applied before treatment to minimise discomfort. The sensation during the procedure is often described as ‘pins and needles’ or a hot, stinging feeling. The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes. Afterwards, cooling and soothing masks are applied immediately. Any post-treatment discomfort is similar to a severe sunburn and typically eases within a few days.

Expect 6–10 days of downtime for the skin to fully heal: redness, swelling and a severe-sunburn feeling for the first few days, then peeling as the treated layers shed; redness can persist for a few weeks and can be covered with mineral makeup. Initial improvements are visible after about a week, and initial improvements visible after about a week, with full results developing over 2–3 months as collagen remodelling continues.

Results can last several years, depending on skincare, sun protection and lifestyle. The new collagen and elastin produced continues to improve your skin for 2-3 months after treatment. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to sustain results.

CO₂ laser suits anyone concerned about acne scarring, sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores or sagging skin. It works on most skin types. It is generally not suitable for active skin infections, eczema, or Accutane in the last 6–12 months; changes in skin colour can occur in darker skin types, which Becky assesses before treating. Becky assesses your skin before treating and will tell you honestly if it isn’t right for you.

CO₂ fractional laser is versatile and can treat many areas. On the face, it’s particularly effective around the eyes (crow’s feet), mouth (smoker’s lines) and forehead. It also treats the neck and décolletage for saggy and sun-damaged skin, and can rejuvenate the backs of hands. It’s also suitable for treating acne or surgical scars on the arms, legs, abdomen and thighs.

You’ll receive a complete aftercare kit on treatment day. Key aftercare includes keeping the skin clean and moisturised, avoiding sun exposure for at least 4 weeks, using SPF 50 daily, avoiding makeup for the first 5-7 days, and not picking at peeling skin. Detailed written instructions are provided, and Becky is available for any questions during your recovery.

Yes — CO₂ laser is one of the most effective treatments for acne scarring, including atrophic, hypertrophic and ice-pick scars. It works by resurfacing the scarred surface layer while stimulating deeper collagen remodelling that softens and smooths indented scars. It’s also used for surgical and post-traumatic scars. For deeper scarring, multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart may be recommended.
